GVMC to conduct summer sports coaching camps from May 25

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) will conduct summer sports coaching camps from May 25 to June 6 across 486 centres under its jurisdiction.

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, IAS, announced that a total of 12,036 students in the age group of 8 to 16 years will participate in the programme. The camps aim to provide structured sports training to school children during the summer vacation and encourage greater participation in physical activity.

Training will be imparted in 41 sports disciplines, covering both individual and team events. Officials said the initiative is designed to identify young talent at the grassroots level while promoting fitness and discipline among children.

The camps will be inaugurated on May 25, though the venue for the launch has not yet been finalised.

During a review meeting held at the GVMC Main Office, the Commissioner directed officials to ensure all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the camps. He instructed that T-shirts be distributed to participants and stressed the importance of providing nutritious supplements, buttermilk, and safe drinking water at all centres.

He further emphasised the need for adequate medical support and effective monitoring mechanisms to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants throughout the duration of the camps.

Officials have been asked to coordinate closely to ensure uniform standards across all coaching centres and to make the programme beneficial for children across the city.
