Giriraj Singh Highlights Textile Sector’s Employment Potential During Brandix Visit
Union Minister for Textiles Giriraj Singh on Saturday visited the Brandix apparel facility at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Achutapuram, near Visakhapatnam, and reviewed its production operations, export activities, and employee welfare initiatives.
Accompanied by Brandix India Director and Partner Doraswamy and senior company officials, the minister toured various sections of the facility and was briefed on production processes, quality control systems, export operations, and workforce management practices. He also reviewed welfare measures in place for employees, including initiatives focused on workplace safety and overall well-being.
During the visit, Singh praised the company’s high operational standards and commended its contribution to industrial growth in Andhra Pradesh. He said large-scale manufacturing units such as Brandix have played a significant role in strengthening the country’s textile and apparel sector while generating employment opportunities in semi-urban and rural areas.
Addressing employees and officials, the minister highlighted the textile sector’s importance to the national economy, describing it as the second-largest source of employment after agriculture. He noted that the industry remains a key driver of economic growth and export earnings.
Emphasising the sector’s employment potential, Singh said an investment of ₹1 crore in the textile industry can generate direct employment for nearly 50 people, making it one of the most labour-intensive sectors in the country. He added that the Centre has been actively encouraging investments in textiles and apparel manufacturing to enhance production capacity, boost exports, and create jobs.
The minister expressed satisfaction at the transformation brought about by industrial establishments such as Brandix, particularly in the lives of women from rural communities. He said thousands of women have gained access to stable employment, enabling them to attain financial independence and improve their families’ living standards.
Singh also noted that the growth of the textile and apparel sector would drive inclusive development by generating employment opportunities for youth and women while strengthening the region’s overall economy.
Brandix operates one of the largest integrated apparel manufacturing hubs in Andhra Pradesh, employing a substantial workforce drawn from surrounding districts. The facility exports garments to several international markets and stands as a major industrial employer in the region.
