GVMC introduces toll-free helpline for corruption complaints
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has launched a toll-free helpline to enable citizens to report instances of corruption, bribery, and delays in public service delivery by its officials and employees.
In a statement issued on Sunday, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said the public could lodge complaints through the toll-free number 180042500009. He specified this applies if any official or employee demanded a bribe, engaged in corrupt practices, or caused undue delays in discharging official duties.
Mr. Garg said the civic body had directed officials and staff across departments—Engineering, Town Planning, Water Supply, Horticulture, and Urban Community Development (UCD)—to ensure transparency and accountability in their duties.
Officials have been repeatedly instructed to dispose of public grievances and applications within two days, failing which disciplinary action will be initiated, Mr. Garg said. However, as allegations against certain departments continued to surface despite these directions, the corporation decided to introduce the dedicated helpline.
Mr. Garg said all complaints received through the toll-free helpline would be verified confidentially, and strict action would be taken if the allegations were found to be true.
Mr. Garg urged citizens to use the helpline and support the corporation’s efforts to ensure a transparent and corruption-free administration.
