Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday announced that the Andhra Pradesh government would establish permanent yoga centres at Swarna Grama and Ward Secretariats as part of its efforts to promote yoga and improve public health across the State.
Addressing the State-level International Yoga Day celebrations at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in Vijayawada, Mr. Naidu said district-level and mandal-level officials would be appointed to oversee yoga programmes, while an expert committee would be constituted to develop standard yoga protocols.
The Chief Minister, who participated in the mass yoga session alongside yoga guru Baba Ramdev, also announced that the State-level International Yoga Day celebrations in 2027 would be held in Tirupati.
Mr. Naidu said the government aimed to transform Andhra Pradesh into a healthy, prosperous and happy State by promoting yoga and spirituality. He said the future lay in combining technology with spirituality and called on people to join the government’s efforts to build a “Spiritual Andhra Pradesh.”
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in promoting yoga, Mr. Naidu said the Prime Minister had helped secure global recognition for the ancient practice and raise India’s standing internationally. He described India as a “Vishwa Guru” capable of guiding the world across diverse domains and said yoga promotes both physical and mental well-being.
He also praised Baba Ramdev for popularising yoga among the masses.
Recalling the Yoga Andhra-2025 programme held in Visakhapatnam in the presence of the Prime Minister, Mr. Naidu said the event had created a world record. He reiterated the government’s commitment to bringing yoga to every household to improve public health.
Mr. Naidu said the government was promoting natural farming extensively to enable people to consume chemical-free food. He added that yoga would be integrated into the Sanjeevani project as part of its preventive healthcare initiatives.
