40 international students receive degrees at GITAM special graduation ceremony
Forty international students from eight countries were awarded degrees at the seventh Special Graduation Ceremony hosted by GITAM Deemed to be University in Visakhapatnam.
The graduates, representing Afghanistan, Rwanda, Liberia, Nigeria, Nepal, Ethiopia, Uganda and Indonesia, completed programmes in Engineering, Science, Pharmacy, Paramedical Sciences, Nursing and Management.
Addressing the graduates, Pro Vice-Chancellor Y. Gowtham Rao said India’s higher education system, shaped by India’s rich cultural and academic heritage, had emerged as a preferred destination for international students. Education, he said, should enable individuals to apply knowledge for the betterment of society. He described the graduating students as academic ambassadors of the university.
Registrar D. Gunasekharan said more than 400 international students from more than 25 countries were currently pursuing higher education at GITAM. He acknowledged the Government of India’s Study in India initiative for promoting Indian higher education globally and encouraging greater enrolment of international students. He also advised the graduates to join the Indian Alumni Association to build lasting professional networks.
The graduates expressed satisfaction with their academic experience at GITAM and thanked the Government of India for supporting their education through the Study in India programme.
