AU VC calls for focus on interdisciplinary research, student employability
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.P. Rajasekhar has urged faculty members to strengthen interdisciplinary research through greater collaboration across departments and the submission of joint research proposals.
Addressing a meeting of faculty members at the Gautama Buddha Auditorium of the College of Engineering on Thursday, Prof. Rajasekhar said the university was considering introducing a financial assistance scheme to enable faculty members and research scholars to participate in international conferences.
With the new academic year set to begin, he directed departments to ensure that classrooms are equipped with essential infrastructure, including smart boards, and maintained in a clean and hygienic condition. He said the university would provide additional infrastructure wherever required.
The Vice-Chancellor instructed departments to ensure that classrooms, laboratories, and toilets are cleaned twice daily with the support of dedicated sanitation staff and emphasised the need to maintain a conducive academic environment. He also asked every department to prepare a list of leading international journals and conferences relevant to its discipline.
Emphasising student employability, Prof. Rajasekhar asked faculty members to identify industries with which they have professional links so that industry representatives could be invited to interact with students. He also proposed appointing one faculty coordinator and one student coordinator in each department to facilitate placement-related activities.
He said the university was preparing a plan to enhance the visibility of academic, research, and extension activities through print, electronic, and social media in coordination with the Branding and Media Office, while continuing to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.
Referring to the recently announced Startup Funding Programme, Prof. Rajasekhar said the university had received 32 applications from students. The most promising proposals would be shortlisted for financial assistance of up to ₹5 lakh.
Registrar K. Rambabu, principals, heads of departments, faculty members, and others attended the meeting.
