World Bank, GVMC discuss roadmap for Visakhapatnam Economic Region
A World Bank delegation met Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg at the corporation headquarters on Thursday to discuss strategies for the development of the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER).
The meeting, attended by World Bank representatives Jones, Abhijit Roy and Jyoti Nayak, focused on preparing a long-term roadmap for urban infrastructure development in the region.
Mr. Garg stressed the need for comprehensive development plans to cater to Visakhapatnam’s rapidly growing population and the expanding industrial and economic activity in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
He said the city required robust civic infrastructure and large-scale projects that would directly benefit residents while also addressing the future needs of an urban centre expected to witness substantial economic growth.
The discussions also covered possible areas of collaboration between the World Bank and GVMC, including technical assistance, innovative funding models and efficient management of financial resources.
The meeting assumes significance as Visakhapatnam seeks to strengthen its infrastructure and emerge as a major economic hub in the region.
