GITAM hosts CME on transfusion medicine

GITAM School of Pharmacy, in association with the GITAM Career Guidance Centre (GCGC), organised the National CME Series 2026 on the theme, “Advancing Transfusion Medicine through Apheresis Technology: Enhancing Patient Outcomes through Precision Blood Component Therapy.”

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme brought together healthcare professionals, clinicians, transfusion medicine specialists and academicians to discuss recent advances in precision blood component therapy and patient blood management. Deliberations focused on the clinical use of apheresis products, single-donor platelets, apheresis plasma, optimisation of blood component utilisation, patient blood management strategies and clinical case studies.

Delivering the keynote address, Clinical Pharmacologist and Drug Safety Leader Y. Sridhar Reddy highlighted the role of advanced transfusion practices and emerging technologies in improving healthcare delivery. Praveena T., Chief Executive Officer of the Virchow Foundation, spoke on the foundation’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The programme was held under the guidance of L. Srinivas, Principal of GITAM School of Pharmacy. Edwin Anthony, Senior Director of the GITAM Career Guidance Centre, emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary learning and continuous professional development for healthcare professionals. Organisers said the CME provided a platform for knowledge sharing and helped bridge the gap between medical research and clinical practice.
