“Every kilometre tested my resolve”: Guinness record holder Chintalapudi Sai Kumar shares his journey
For Chintalapudi Sai Kumar, an Industrial Engineering Manager at Brandix-2 in Achyutapuram, earning a place in the Guinness World Records was the culmination of months of preparation, endurance and determination. Speaking to The Coastal Times, he recounted his motorcycle expedition to Umling La, the world’s highest motorable road.
“I have always been passionate about adventure motorcycling. This expedition was about pushing my limits and proving to myself that I could complete one of the world’s toughest rides,” Mr. Sai Kumar said.
He and two friends set out from Vijayawada on July 15 and travelled thousands of kilometres to the Leh-Ladakh region.
“The toughest part began in the mountains. The weather changed suddenly, the roads became more challenging and the thin air made every kilometre harder. At that altitude, both the rider and the motorcycle are put to the test,” he said.
Mr. Sai Kumar said months of planning went into the expedition. “We trained, planned the route carefully and prepared our motorcycles for the terrain. In the mountains, preparation is everything,” he said.
The defining moment came when the team reached Umling La, situated at 5,798 metres (19,024 feet) above sea level.
“Reaching Umling La was an unforgettable moment. After overcoming so many challenges, standing at the world’s highest motorable road was deeply satisfying. Being recognised by Guinness World Records made it even more memorable,” he said.
Mr. Sai Kumar returned to Vijayawada on July 24 after completing the expedition and was later felicitated by the management and employees of the Brandix-2 unit.
Crediting those who stood by him, he said, “My family, friends and colleagues supported me throughout the journey. Their encouragement kept me motivated.” He hopes his achievement will inspire young people to pursue adventure sports responsibly.
“Adventure is not about taking unnecessary risks. It is about preparation, discipline and respecting nature. With commitment and perseverance, any goal is achievable,” he said.
