Andhra University withholds affiliation of five colleges
Andhra University has withheld the affiliation of five colleges, including four-degree colleges and a B.Ed. college, for the 2026–27 academic year after they failed to respond satisfactorily to notices over deficiencies found during inspections.
The university had issued show-cause notices to 32 affiliated colleges, including 28 degree colleges, three B.Ed. colleges and one law college, following inspections conducted as part of the affiliation process. The institutions were asked to rectify the deficiencies within three months.
The five colleges failed to submit satisfactory responses and will not be allowed to admit students for the current academic year, university officials said. The remaining colleges have been given time to rectify the shortcomings, failing which further action will follow.
AU constituted 32 two-member teams to inspect 160 private degree colleges under its jurisdiction. Twelve teams inspected B.Ed. colleges, while two were assigned to law colleges and one to pharmacy colleges. The inspections were conducted over nearly a month.
The teams examined infrastructure and academic facilities, including buildings, classrooms, floor area, faculty qualifications, drinking water, toilets, electricity, safety arrangements, furniture and libraries.
Among the deficiencies identified were colleges running nursing and other courses despite having approval only for degree programmes, inadequate faculty strength, faculty members without the prescribed qualifications, and poorly maintained buildings.
The university has indicated that colleges failing to meet the prescribed requirements within the stipulated period could face further action.
