N Chandababu Naidu to distribute title deeds to 28,445 families in Visakhapatnam

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will distribute title deeds to 28,445 families in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, ending a nearly four-decade wait for poor and middle-class residents seeking full ownership rights over their houses.

The programme will be held at the AU Engineering College grounds from 3 p.m., marking the first large-scale regularisation and distribution of house-site title deeds in the city.

Officials said the land being regularised covers 399 acres (19,33,853 square yards), valued at an estimated ₹8,874 crore, with beneficiaries spread across areas from Gajuwaka to Bheemunipatnam. The families had lived in and built houses on the land for years without legal title, which had kept them from transferring, mortgaging or securing their property.

The move follows directions issued by Naidu after the NDA government took charge in 2024, when public representatives raised the issue. The Chief Minister subsequently ordered that government land occupied by existing houses be regularised, wherever there were no objections, and ownership granted to occupants.

In a social media post, Naidu called Saturday’s event “not merely a distribution of title deeds, but a historic occasion,” saying it would grant full ownership rights to 28,445 families.

In-charge Minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, District Collector Abhishikt Kishore, Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg and other senior officials inspected arrangements on Friday, with a large police deployment planned for the event.
