Andhra University launches Clinical Embryology courses
Amid the growing demand for trained professionals in assisted reproductive technologies, Andhra University has introduced specialised courses in Clinical Embryology in collaboration with a city-based fertility centre.
The university has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Life Fertility Centre to offer a two-year Master’s programme in Clinical Embryology and a one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Embryology. University officials said the initiative is among the first of its kind in South India and aims to create a skilled workforce for fertility and IVF centres.
Under the arrangement, the fertility centre provides IVF and laboratory facilities for practical training, while faculty members from the university’s Department of Pharmacy are responsible for the academic component of the programmes.
The Master’s programme comprises four semesters, with the first year devoted to classroom instruction and the second year focusing on laboratory-based practical training. Candidates who have secured at least 50% marks in disciplines such as B.Pharm, Pharm.D, MBBS, BDS, BVSc, BHMS, BAMS, BPT, B.Sc Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Allied Sciences, Biotechnology, and Life Sciences are eligible for admission.
The Postgraduate Diploma programme is open to graduates from various disciplines, medical professionals, and those already employed in IVF centres. Applicants seeking admission to the diploma course are required to qualify in the EMBSET entrance examination.
According to the programme coordinators, the courses are being offered under a self-financing model and are intended to address the growing demand for qualified personnel in fertility clinics. They said graduates could find employment in IVF and reproductive medicine centres, with remuneration varying according to qualifications and experience.
Officials said students from the 2024-25 batch have secured placements in fertility centres in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Chennai.
The Master’s programme has an intake capacity of 50 seats. Admissions for the current academic year will remain open until June 30, according to the coordinators.
