GVMC to procure ‘Pothole Busters’ for faster road repairs
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is set to procure ‘Pothole Busters – The Road Doctor’ mobile machines to expedite road repair works across the city.
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, along with engineering officials, on Wednesday inspected a live demonstration of pothole repair conducted by Trans Metalite India Limited near the Collectorate office.
During the demonstration, Mr. Garg observed that the machine could significantly improve the speed and efficiency of road restoration works within GVMC limits.
Explaining the technology, Chief Operating Officer of Trans Metalite India Limited, Nipun Soni, said the machine heats and mixes stone aggregates and bitumen internally, cleans the damaged pothole area, and fills it uniformly to match the existing road surface. He added that the equipment can be operated by one driver and four workers.
Mr. Garg noted that the machine is capable of repairing a pothole in about 20 minutes and said it would be especially useful during the monsoon season for quick restoration work.
He directed GVMC Chief Engineer Satyanarayana Raju to prepare proposals for procuring similar machines using 15th Finance Commission funds. He added that adopting modern technology in road maintenance would improve infrastructure quality and ensure smoother vehicular movement across the city.
