HSL, Kakinada Seaports sign MoU to boost shipbuilding capacity
Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kakinada Seaports Limited (KSPL) to develop shipbuilding facilities at KSPL’s premises and enhance the country’s shipbuilding capacity.
The MoU was signed by HSL Chairman and Managing Director Rear Admiral Chandreshekharan Raghuram, VSM, and KSPL Chairman and Managing Director K.V. Rao during INMARCO 2026, the quadrennial International Maritime Conference and Exhibition organised by the Institute of Marine Engineers (India).
The agreement envisages the utilisation and upgrading of existing infrastructure, including slipways and jetty facilities, to support shipbuilding activities. It also provides for the development of collaborative models to identify and execute major shipbuilding projects by leveraging the expertise and resources of both organisations.
According to HSL, the partnership aims to make optimal use of existing maritime infrastructure and create additional shipbuilding capacity in line with the country’s maritime development objectives.
HSL added that the initiative highlights the need for greater coordination among shipyards, ports, regulators, designers, suppliers and financial institutions to strengthen the domestic shipbuilding industry. It said the collaboration would create new opportunities in shipbuilding and allied maritime activities, while contributing to the development of the country’s maritime sector.
The agreement is part of HSL’s wider efforts to expand domestic shipbuilding capabilities through strategic partnerships.
