Parents protest, seek urgent upgrade of dilapidated school

A government primary school in Komira village of Ravikamatham mandal has triggered concern after parents and students staged a protest demanding urgent intervention over its deteriorating infrastructure and lack of adequate classrooms.

The protest was held at the Swarna Panchayat office on Saturday, where parents called for the construction of a permanent school building for 68 students studying from Classes 1 to 5. They also demanded an alternate site and a temporary shed using CSR funds until a new structure is sanctioned.

Locals said the school has two buildings, one of which has been declared structurally unsafe by engineering officials. The roof is damaged, and portions of the slab are reportedly crumbling, leading to water leakage during rains.

With only one classroom currently usable, accommodating all students has become difficult. As a stopgap arrangement, Classes 1 and 2 are being conducted at a nearby Ramalayam. However, poor conditions such as damp walls and water seepage are affecting learning, especially during the monsoon.

Parents alleged that despite repeated representations and assurances that a proposal for a new building had been forwarded, no funds have been sanctioned so far.

With the monsoon approaching, they urged the District Collector and Education Minister Nara Lokesh to immediately release funds for a permanent school building and arrange a temporary structure using CSR funds in the interim. They also said they were willing to contribute if government land was allotted.

CPM district committee member K. Govindarao also demanded immediate allocation of alternative land and construction of a temporary shed using CSR funds, along with expedited approval for a permanent school building.
