Tata plans data centre near Google facility in Rambilli

The Tata Group is planning to establish a major data centre in Rambilli mandal of Anakapalli district, adding momentum to the region’s emergence as a preferred destination for digital infrastructure investments. The proposed facility is expected to come up close to the site where Google has already initiated the development of a large-scale data centre.

Sources said the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has submitted proposals to the State government seeking allocation of land in the non-SEZ area acquired during the second phase in Atchutapuram and Rambilli mandals. The move is part of the government’s efforts to attract investments in the rapidly growing data centre sector.

The Tata facility is likely to be established near the land earmarked for Google’s project. APIIC is understood to be considering the allocation of around 200 acres for the proposed development. Representatives of the Tata Group have reportedly visited and inspected the site in recent months.

The investment in the project is estimated at around ₹5,000 crore. In addition to the data centre, the company is expected to develop a call centre park and related support infrastructure, creating an integrated technology ecosystem in the area.

Officials estimate that the project could generate direct employment for around 3,000 people and indirect opportunities for another 3,000. The project is also expected to create demand for ancillary services, logistics, maintenance operations and skilled technical manpower in the region.

North Andhra has increasingly drawn the attention of technology and infrastructure companies because of its strategic advantages. The coastal location offers access to submarine cable connectivity, while the availability of water and reliable power supply makes the region suitable for large-scale data centre operations. Connectivity through the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway, railway network and nearby ports further strengthens its attractiveness for investors.

Industry observers note that the entry of another major corporate group into the sector reflects growing confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s digital infrastructure potential. With Google’s project already underway in Rambilli, the proposed Tata investment is expected to further strengthen the Visakhapatnam-Anakapalli corridor’s position as an emerging data infrastructure hub on the east coast.
