Visakhapatnam Pushes Multi-Modal Transport Plan
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg announced that a high-level review meeting was held Wednesday at the Smart City office to strengthen the city’s urban transport system and enhance commuting convenience.
The meeting, chaired by Visakhapatnam MP M. Sri Bharat, focused on developing a comprehensive multimodal city transport plan. It was emphasized that the plan should consider population growth, rising traffic congestion, ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects, public transportation demand, and future urban expansion. Officials were instructed to prepare a structured action plan that addresses immediate, medium-term, and long-term measures.
District Collector M.N. Harendira Prasad emphasized the importance of effective interdepartmental coordination and said that data-driven planning would be crucial to achieving the desired outcomes. Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi noted that traffic management, road safety, and enforcement must be integral to the city’s transport strategy.
Mr. Garg mentioned that the GVMC is already working on a multi-modal city mobility plan and assured full cooperation from the civic body in implementing the proposed measures.
Officials from the Urban Mass Transit Company Limited presented an overview of the current transport situation in the city and proposed strategies to improve overall transport capacity. The meeting concluded with the agreement that all departments would collaborate to develop Visakhapatnam into a safe, convenient, and integrated urban mobility system.
GVMC Chief Engineer P.V. Satyanarayana Raju, Additional Commissioner S.S. Varma, Smart City Manager Anand, and other officials also attended the meeting.
