GVMC launches online birth, death certificate services
In a move aimed at making civic services faster, transparent and more citizen-friendly, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has introduced an online system for issuing birth and death certificates, eliminating the need for citizens to visit zonal offices.
Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) E.N.V. Naresh Kumar announced the initiative while addressing an awareness programme at the GVMC head office on Wednesday.
He said residents can now apply for birth and death certificates from their homes using a mobile phone or computer through the GVMC website, www.gvmc.gov.in. Applicants can submit the required details and upload supporting documents online.
Dr. Naresh Kumar said the online facility was introduced by GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg as part of a citizen-centric initiative to simplify the process of obtaining certificates. He directed officials to ensure that certificates are issued within seven days if applications are complete and accompanied by all required documents.
He also instructed sanitary inspectors to ensure ward sanitary secretaries assist citizens visiting ward secretariats in filling out online applications and uploading documents using mobile devices. He said birth and death sanitary inspectors have already been trained in implementing the new online system.
The CMOH asked officials to scrutinise every application carefully and conduct field verification wherever necessary before forwarding applications for online approval.
Later, Statistical Officer P.D.V. Prasad explained the procedure for scrutinising online applications and forwarding them to the competent authorities. He also briefed sanitary inspectors on registration procedures for hospital births, home and transit births, deaths, adoption-related registrations, special registration cases and births and deaths occurring abroad.
Prasad also clarified queries raised by zonal commissioners, assistant medical officers, sanitary supervisors and sanitary inspectors on the implementation of the online registration system.
