YSRCP Seeks Halt to 54.79-Acre Land Transfer to GITAM
A delegation of the YSR Congress Party led by district president K.K. Raju met District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad on Wednesday. The team sought clarity on 54.79 acres of government land at Yendada and Rushikonda. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Council recently cleared its regularisation in favour of GITAM Deemed to be University.
Constituency coordinators, MLCs, former MLAs, and corporators joined the delegation. They submitted a representation and urged the Collector to stop the land transfer. They said the public has doubts about the ownership, classification, and legality of the land.
Residents have questioned whether officials followed all procedures before placing the proposal before the GVMC Council. Leaders said the issue has sparked public debate, as the land lies near the fast-growing coastal areas of Yendada and Rushikonda.
Speaking to the media, K.K. Raju said the council listed the issue as the 15th agenda item at its January 30 meeting. He alleged that members cleared the proposal without the consent of all councillors and termed the move unilateral.
He said people of Visakhapatnam oppose the decision and want full disclosure. He asked authorities to specify how much of the 54.79 acres is government land and how much comes under the Gedda and poramboke categories. He also sought the release of the full file, survey records, and approvals linked to the decision.
The delegation urged the Collector to consider public opinion and maintain transparency in decisions involving government land. They said such decisions affect urban planning and public trust.
