YSRCP Rhetoric Threat to Democracy: Parthasarathy
Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy on Tuesday launched a strong attack on the YSR Congress Party, alleging that its rhetoric and political conduct pose a serious threat to democratic values, public peace, and social harmony in the state.
Addressing a press conference at the party state office in Mangalagiri, the minister said certain actions and statements made by opposition leaders reflected “dangerous tendencies” that were creating fear and uncertainty among the public. He claimed that such narratives were designed to mislead people, weaken confidence in democratic institutions, and trigger unrest in society.
Parthasarathy accused the opposition of politicising sensitive and personal tragedies for narrow political gains. He described the approach as irresponsible, unethical, and detrimental to healthy political discourse. Instead of offering solutions to public issues or presenting constructive alternatives, the opposition was allegedly attempting to exploit emotions and create confusion among citizens, he said.
The minister also expressed concern over the increasing use of aggressive, provocative, and divisive language in politics. He warned that if such rhetoric was normalised, it could damage the democratic culture of debate and widen divisions among communities. Political parties, he said, must exercise restraint and uphold dignity while addressing public issues.
Stressing the need to preserve democratic traditions, Parthasarathy said political competition should be based on policies, development, and public welfare rather than fear campaigns and sensationalism. He maintained that democracy becomes stronger only when discussions remain issue-based and respectful.
Calling for greater public awareness, the minister urged citizens to carefully evaluate political narratives and reject attempts to spread fear, hatred, or misinformation. Safeguarding democracy and protecting social stability, he said, was a shared responsibility that required vigilance and constructive participation from all sections of society.
