Simhachalam Gears Up for Chandanotsavam on April 20
Days before the ‘Chandanotsavam’ of Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy at Simhachalam temple on April 20, district authorities announced a comprehensive crowd management plan. They divided the temple complex into 12 sectors. Senior officers from three departments will oversee each zone.
District Collector M. Abhishikt Kishore chaired a final review meeting at the Collectorate on Wednesday. He said three senior officers, each from the Endowments, Revenue, and Police departments, will head every sector. “These officers will stay on the ground, work closely together, take prompt decisions, and manage situations effectively,” he said.
Around two lakh devotees are expected on the day of the festival. As a result, queue-line management emerged as a key concern. The Collector directed officials to keep APSRTC buses moving without interruption. He also asked them to resolve any disruptions without delay. In addition, authorities posted special officers at parking areas at the foothills to regulate pilgrim movement.
Furthermore, the Collector asked municipal corporation officials to maintain proper sanitation across the temple premises. They must also ensure safe drinking water and other basic amenities reach every devotee.
On ticketing, the Collector was firm. Officials must scan every ticket through a QR code to prevent duplication. Devotees must buy tickets only through banks or authorised online platforms. He warned that authorities will take strict legal action against anyone who uses or sells fake tickets. He also urged the public to stay alert.
Commissioner of Police Shank Brata Bagchi laid down clear terms for VIP entry. Authorities will allow only one vehicle per pass. Each VIP can bring no more than six members for darshan. Officials must prepare a VIP list in advance and clearly communicate the rules. “No exceptions will be made,” Bagchi said.
