Private unaided schools told to strictly follow RTE norms

The district administration has directed all private unaided schools in the district to strictly adhere to the provisions of Section 12(1)(c) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act during admissions.

District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore said schools should implement admissions in accordance with the government-issued guidelines, without any deviation. He stressed that transparency and uniformity must be maintained in the admission process across all institutions.

He said students allotted seats under the official RTE admission process and found eligible must be admitted without delay. Any attempt to postpone or deny admission despite allotment would be viewed seriously, he added.

The administration has also directed schools not to undertake any third-party verification of certificates submitted by parents or applicants. Certificates issued by competent government authorities, including income, caste, and residence certificates, should be accepted as valid without further scrutiny at the school level.

Officials said admissions should not be denied on grounds of doubt over the authenticity of government-issued documents or concerns relating to the distance of a student’s residence. Such practices, they said, are not in line with the provisions of the RTE Act.

The Collector warned that violations of these instructions would attract action under the RTE Act and relevant government orders. He urged school managements to ensure strict compliance and extend cooperation in the effective implementation of the admission process.
