DRM Lalit Bohra Honoured with PRSI Award on National PR Day
The Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway observed National Public Relations Day on Tuesday with the theme, “PR – The Fifth Pillar of Democracy.” The programme was organised in association with the Public Relations Society of India to highlight the role of public relations in fostering trust, transparency, and effective communication in a democratic system.
Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra was felicitated with the PRSI Award in recognition of his leadership and support for public communication initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bohra said public relations had emerged as an important link between institutions and the people by ensuring clear, timely, and credible communication. In a democracy, he said, effective public relations helps create awareness about policies, programmes, and services while encouraging greater citizen participation in governance.
He said constructive engagement between authorities and citizens strengthens accountability, builds trust, and ensures institutions remain responsive to public needs and expectations. Transparent communication, he added, was also essential to counter misinformation, address public concerns, and reinforce confidence in governance systems.
Vice-Chancellor of Andhra Kesari University Prof. D. V. R. Murthi attended as the chief guest and delivered the keynote address on the theme. He highlighted the importance of public relations in strengthening democratic values, promoting transparency, and building trust between institutions and the public.
He observed that in a rapidly evolving communication landscape, public relations plays a key role in connecting governments, organisations, the media, and citizens, making it an essential pillar for the healthy functioning of democracy.
Office-bearers and executive members of PRSI, along with branch officers of the Division, were present.
