DLSA reviews victim support services, steps up Lok Adalat preparations
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) on Thursday reviewed services for victims at King George Hospital (KGH), conducted a legal awareness programme for the public, and held a coordination meeting with police officials ahead of the National Lok Adalat scheduled for May 9.
District Legal Services Authority Secretary and Senior Civil Judge R. Sanyasi Naidu inspected the One Stop Centre, Tribal Cell, DVC Cell, and DIEC Centre at KGH and reviewed the assistance being provided to victims. He directed officials to ensure timely legal aid to all eligible persons, with particular focus on women and people from tribal areas.
As part of its outreach activities, the authority set up a special legal services stall at the AU Convention Centre on Beach Road from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free legal advice, information on legal aid schemes, and awareness of the institution’s activities were provided to visitors.
Later, Mr. Sanyasi Naidu chaired a coordination meeting with senior police officials to discuss arrangements for the National Lok Adalat. He urged the police to identify pending compoundable criminal cases and civil disputes that could be resolved through settlement and to issue advance notices to the parties concerned.
He said Lok Adalat provides a speedy and cost-free mechanism for dispute resolution, reducing the burden on courts and saving litigants from repeated visits.
