Four government hospitals in district get heat stroke wards
Special four-bed wards for heat stroke patients have been set up at government hospitals in Aganampudi, Gopalapatnam, Pendurthi, and Bheemunipatnam as summer temperatures continue to rise across the district.
District Hospital Services Coordinator R. Narendra Singh said the hospitals had been equipped with IV fluids, medicines, ORS packets, and cooling facilities to ensure prompt treatment for patients suffering from heat-related illnesses. Medical staff had also been directed to provide immediate care, he said.
He warned that cases of heat stroke and dehydration were likely to increase due to excessive temperatures and urged people to take preventive measures. Senior citizens, children, pregnant women, and outdoor workers should remain particularly cautious during the summer, he said.
People have been advised to avoid going out between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., drink water and rehydrating fluids such as ORS, buttermilk, and coconut water frequently, and wear light-coloured cotton clothes. Officials also suggested consuming light food, fruits, and vegetables, and using caps, cloths, or umbrellas while stepping outdoors.
Those experiencing symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, or vomiting have been asked to consult the nearest hospital without delay.
The health department also appealed to voluntary organisations to distribute buttermilk and other cooling drinks to poor and needy patients visiting government hospitals during periods of intense heat.
