GVMC bags State Award for record property tax collections
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has been conferred with a state-level award and certificate of appreciation for its outstanding performance in property tax collections, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said on Thursday.
The recognition was presented during the state-level commissioners’ workshop on Solid Waste Management Rules–2026, held at the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada. Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, S Suresh Kumar, and Director of Municipal Administration Dr P Sampath Kumar presented the award to GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg.
Speaking on the occasion, Ketan Garg credited the achievement to the active cooperation of the citizens of Visakhapatnam. He said the milestone was made possible through the collective efforts of the Revenue Department, field staff, and taxpayers, under the guidance of Additional Commissioner DV Ramanamurthy and the continuous monitoring of Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) S Srinivasa Rao.
GVMC recorded a strong performance in the financial year 2025–26, significantly exceeding expectations. Against a targeted additional collection of around ₹90 crore, the civic body managed to mobilise an additional ₹60 crore, officials said.
In the previous financial year, GVMC collected ₹510 crore in property tax, while the current year witnessed an increase of ₹110 crore, marking a robust 21.5 per cent growth in revenue.
