Venkaiah Naidu Calls for Tech-Savvy, Justice-Oriented Legal Fraternity

Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday called on young people to embrace modern technology while staying aligned with global legal developments, saying the next generation must combine innovation with a strong sense of justice and social responsibility.

Speaking at a programme organised by Dr B.R. Ambedkar College of Law as part of the centenary celebrations of Andhra University, Naidu urged young lawyers to stand firmly with the poor and marginalised sections of society.

He flagged rising concerns over cybercrime and increasing violence against women, saying legal professionals must take a proactive role in prevention, protection and environmental responsibility. Law, he added, is deeply connected to society, and lawyers have a duty to safeguard democratic values and public welfare.

Recalling his association with Andhra University Law College, Naidu said the institution had played a key role in shaping his life and career.

On women’s empowerment, he said reservation for women would move forward despite challenges and stressed the need to ensure justice for women, who make up half the population.

Calling India a nation committed to global welfare, he said the country has consistently stood for peace even as several regions continue to witness conflicts driven by imperial ambitions.

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.P. Raja Sekhar said the Law College had produced several eminent personalities who contributed significantly to society. He also highlighted ongoing research initiatives and development programmes at the university, noting that alumni continue to mentor students.

Former Supreme Court judge Justice Kurian Joseph said the Constitution remains the guiding force behind India’s progress.

College principal K. Seethamanikyam said the institution had produced not only successful lawyers but also visionary leaders.

Later, Naidu inaugurated stalls and exhibitions on campus, visited the art gallery, and signed the visitors’ book. He also visited a khadi stall, purchased products, and interacted with students, presenting them with souvenirs.
