₹1,500 Crore Boost for Vizag Infrastructure
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat announced that three major infrastructure projects worth ₹1,500 crore have been sanctioned for the city under the Centre’s Urban Challenge Fund.
Speaking after the DISHA meeting at the Collectorate on Saturday, he said the projects cover an underground drainage system for the Madhurawada zone, a round-the-clock drinking water supply network, and strengthening of bulk and semi-bulk water supply systems citywide.
The Urban Challenge Fund, backed by a ₹50,000 crore Union Government allocation, aims to help cities build sustainable urban infrastructure for the future.
The DISHA meeting reviewed project progress and emphasised early implementation, with a focus on timely execution for the benefit of residents.
The MP noted that several long-pending drinking water and infrastructure projects were now being revived. He credited the State government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, with overhauling these projects and mobilising resources for their completion.
He also announced that a proposal for an additional ₹1,500 crore project is being prepared — a comprehensive sewage management and wastewater treatment system, including facilities for reusing treated water for industrial and other purposes.
The meeting further reviewed progress on coastal pollution control, underground power distribution, drinking water supply, and Central government scheme implementation.
Mr. Sribharat affirmed that the Union and State governments are jointly working to develop Visakhapatnam into a modern city with reliable infrastructure, efficient water supply, and sustainable urban services.
Among those present were MLAs P.G.V.R. Naidu (Ganababu), Vishnu Kumar Raju, Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, and Palla Srinivasa Rao; District Collector M Abhishikth Kishore; GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg; and senior officials from various departments.
