NIA Chargesheets 3 Maoist Operatives in Explosives Supply Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted three CPI (Maoist) operatives for allegedly supplying explosives and logistical support to cadres of the banned organisation in Andhra Pradesh.

The agency filed its first chargesheet in the case (RC-12/2024/NIA/DLI) before the Special NIA Court in Visakhapatnam, invoking provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Explosive Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against the accused.

The chargesheet names Naka Devid Raj alias Daveedu, Vijay Viswas and Sodi Kesa. According to the NIA, Devid Raj and Vijay Viswas functioned as overground workers (OGWs) of the CPI (Maoist) and were arrested by local police while allegedly transporting a consignment of explosives meant for delivery to Sodi Kesa, an underground Maoist cadre.

Investigations revealed that the duo was involved in procuring, transporting and supplying explosive materials to underground Maoist operatives for use in attacks targeting security forces, the agency said.

The NIA further alleged that the accused had established links with CPI (Maoist) members and knowingly provided assistance to further the activities of the banned outfit.

The case was initially registered by local police and later taken over by the NIA in September 2024. The agency said the conspiracy was aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities of the Maoist organisation in the region and posed a threat to national security and stability.

Further investigation is continuing to identify other associates and links connected with the banned outfit, the NIA added.
