GVMC Launches ‘Cycling Day’ Initiative to Promote Green Mobility
In a move aimed at promoting green mobility and healthier living, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has decided to observe every Monday as “Cycling Day” across the city limits.
Adding momentum to the initiative, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg cycled from his official residence to the GVMC headquarters on Monday morning and attended office. Several GVMC employees also joined the effort by commuting to work on bicycles, extending their support to the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said the initiative is intended to encourage public health, reduce pollution, conserve energy, and promote environmental sustainability. He urged all GVMC officials and staff to opt for cycling to work on Mondays wherever possible.
Mr. Garg noted that cycling not only improves physical fitness and mental well-being but also aids in weight management and reduces the risk of lifestyle-related ailments. He added that a reduction in the use of motor vehicles would significantly lower air pollution levels and save fuel.
Extending the appeal to citizens, the Commissioner called upon the people of Visakhapatnam to voluntarily adopt cycling as part of their daily routine. He stressed that protecting the environment and ensuring a clean, green, and healthy city for future generations is a shared responsibility.
Reiterating the vision of “Green Vizag – Healthy Vizag,” he urged officials, employees, and the public to actively support the initiative and help transform cycling into a city-wide movement.
