TDP Slams Remarks on Minister Anitha, Calls for Restraint in Public Discourse

TDP criticises YSRCP leader over remarks on Minister Anitha

Telugu Desam Party state president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao on Monday criticised YSR Congress Party leader Gudivada Amarnath for his remarks against Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, describing them as inappropriate and inconsistent with the standards of public discourse.

Addressing a press conference in Gajuwaka, Mr. Palla said political criticism is integral to democracy, but personal comments on appearance or lifestyle undermine the quality of debate and divert attention from governance issues. He said women in public life should be evaluated on their performance and public service, not on personal attributes.

Referring to Ms. Anitha, he highlighted her rise from grassroots politics to a ministerial position, calling it an example of public trust and sustained service. He also noted the broader significance of her role as a Dalit woman holding a key constitutional office.

He urged restraint in public statements and called for the withdrawal of the remarks.

On the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant incident, Mr. Palla said political parties should avoid attributing such incidents to political motives and instead focus on relief and safety measures for affected workers. He stressed the need to prioritise industrial stability and job security.

He also rejected criticism of the Mega DSC teacher recruitment drive, describing the process as transparent and designed to fill long-pending vacancies. He said attempts to question the process were misleading and urged stakeholders toward constructive engagement with development initiatives.
