SCoR GM reviews safety, Pushkarams preparedness during 3,500-km inspection
South Coast Railway (SCoR) General Manager Sandeep Mathur has completed a nearly 3,500-km inspection across all four divisions of the newly formed railway zone, prioritising safety, infrastructure expansion and preparations for the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams.
During the comprehensive review, Mathur inspected major railway sections, assessed the progress of capacity enhancement projects and directed officials to remove operational bottlenecks, particularly in the Visakhapatnam railway complex, to improve efficiency and meet the region’s growing transportation needs.
With the Godavari Pushkarams drawing near, the General Manager reviewed the preparedness of railway stations and major Pushkar Ghats along the Visakhapatnam-Rajahmundry-Samalkot-Tuni-Anakapalle corridor. He assessed arrangements for crowd management, pilgrim movement and coordination with the state government to ensure seamless passenger handling during the festival.
Safety remained the central focus of the inspection. Mathur examined track maintenance, points and crossings, signalling and telecommunication systems, level-crossing preparedness, tunnel safety and monsoon readiness across the zone.
He also reviewed the progress of major infrastructure projects, including third-line works, yard remodelling, Rail Over Rail (ROR) installations and 23 projects under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme covering 35 stations. The inspection included redevelopment works at Tirupati station, passenger amenity upgrades at Kadapa, the proposed Nambur line alignment and plans for a high-speed rail corridor in the Amaravati region.
As part of the inspection, Mathur visited the New Coach Care Centre in Visakhapatnam to review coach maintenance standards and fire safety measures. He also interacted with women employees on workplace infrastructure and operational issues and inspected crew lobbies and running rooms across the divisions to assess facilities provided for running staff.
The inspection covered key railway sections, including Ichchapuram-Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada-Gudur-Renigunta, Tirupati-Guntakal, Visakhapatnam-Rajahmundry, Nandyal-Guntur and Guntur-Madhira, spanning nearly 3,500 km across the South Coast Railway zone.
