GVMC, Moscow sign pact on urban mobility, digital governance
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and the Government of Moscow have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to strengthen collaboration in urban mobility, digital governance and sustainable urban development.
The agreement was signed during the 5th International Transport Summit in Moscow by GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, and Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow and Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development. Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat was present on the occasion.
Describing the partnership as a step towards modernising the city’s urban infrastructure, Sribharat said the collaboration would enable the exchange of technical expertise and best practices in urban planning, transport and digital governance. He said Moscow’s experience in developing advanced public transport systems would help Visakhapatnam strengthen its urban mobility network and accelerate its transition into a smart and sustainable city.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana said the cooperation would support Visakhapatnam’s long-term urban development as the city continues to grow as an economic hub in north Andhra Pradesh.
Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department, S. Suresh Kumar, said the agreement would provide access to global expertise, advanced technologies and established urban development practices, particularly in smart mobility and digital transformation.
According to officials, the MoC provides for cooperation in developing integrated urban transport systems, preparing comprehensive mobility plans, implementing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), introducing digital ticketing solutions and leveraging artificial intelligence for transport planning and traffic management.
The agreement also covers collaboration in transport data analytics, technology transfer, capacity building and the exchange of experts. Officials said the partnership is expected to strengthen Visakhapatnam’s urban infrastructure and improve public service delivery through technical cooperation and knowledge sharing.
