AMC Associate Professor Suspended Following Harassment Complaints

An Associate Professor in the General Surgery Department of Andhra Medical College (AMC) has been suspended following allegations of harassment made by postgraduate (PG) medical students.

According to official sources, complaints were submitted to the authorities alleging that Dr. K. Janardhan Rao had subjected PG students to verbal abuse and inappropriate conduct. The complaints also alleged that female students had been subjected to sexual harassment.

Following the complaints, AMC Principal Dr. Sandhya Devi constituted an internal inquiry committee to examine the allegations. The committee recorded statements from the complainants and college staff and conducted a detailed inquiry into the matter.

The committee reportedly found merit in the allegations and submitted its findings to the government. Based on the inquiry report, Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr. Vishnuvardhan issued orders suspending the faculty member.

The development has drawn attention within academic and medical circles, with student groups and members of the medical fraternity expressing concern over the allegations. They have called for stringent measures to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students.

Further action, if any, will be taken in accordance with the findings of the inquiry and applicable service rules, sources said.
