Atchannaidu Objects to Sudden Hike in Shrimp Feed Prices, Orders Rollback
Andhra Pradesh Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has expressed strong objection to the unilateral increase in shrimp feed prices by manufacturing companies, warning that the move would severely impact aqua farmers across the State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Minister said the government had been informed that feed companies had raised the price of Vannamei shrimp feed by ₹8 per kg and Tiger shrimp feed by ₹10 per kg, attributing the revision to an increase in the cost of raw materials.
He noted that, as per the APSADA Act (Andhra Pradesh State Aquaculture Development Authority Act), any revision in feed prices must be undertaken only after consultation with farmers’ associations. The Minister alleged that the companies did not follow the mandated procedure, calling it a serious violation.
Mr. Atchannaidu said notices had been issued to the feed manufacturers directing them to immediately withdraw the revised prices. He reiterated that the government remained firmly committed to protecting the interests of aqua farmers.
He further observed that aqua farmers were already under financial stress due to rising cultivation costs, and the latest hike would add to their burden. The price increase, he said, was unjustified and unacceptable.
The Minister also announced that a meeting with representatives of farmers’ associations and feed companies would be held on Wednesday morning to resolve the issue amicably and ensure relief for farmers.
