Early Detection Key to Tackling Parkinson’s: Commissioner
City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi has said that modern lifestyle and rising mental stress are contributing to a surge in health issues such as hypertension, diabetes, and neurological disorders.
Addressing an awareness programme on Parkinson’s disease held here on Sunday, Mr. Bagchi, who is also a physician, stressed the importance of early detection and timely treatment of the condition. He noted that ailments such as brain stroke, paralysis, heart attacks, and cardiac arrest could lead to severe complications, including fatalities and memory impairment. Early diagnosis and appropriate medical care, he said, could help in effectively managing nerve-related disorders.
Neurologist K. Venkateswarlu, speaking on the occasion, emphasised the importance of regular physical activity, particularly walking, in maintaining a healthy nervous system and reducing mental stress. Through a presentation, he highlighted the benefits of yoga and meditation in managing neurological conditions. He explained that Parkinson’s disease typically affects individuals above 60 years of age due to the gradual degeneration of dopamine-producing nerve cells in the brain.
President of Vaisakhi Sports Park Sanapala Vara Prasad commended the services of Srinivasa Raju and Vamsy Chintalapati.
Walkers Health Club president Srinivasa Raju called upon people to show compassion and extend timely help to those in need. He said that free medical and awareness camps organised by Walkers Clubs have been benefiting many.
The programme on neurological disorders was organised by the Master EK Janakulam Foundation and Vaisakhi Sports Park, with support from Cipla and Walkers Health Club.
More than 200 participants attended the seminar and took part in a rally organised as part of the event.
