Music and dance school brings arts closer to Vizianagaram children

Vizianagaram, often regarded as the cultural capital of Andhra Pradesh, has long been home to several traditional music and dance schools, especially around the historic fort area. However, children from outlying localities such as Gajularega, Kottagraharam, Cantonment, and nearby colonies have struggled to access these institutions due to distance and time constraints after school hours.

Addressing this gap, businessman and philanthropist Puvvada Madhusudan has transformed his unused godown at Kothagraharam into a dedicated training centre, named Puvvada Anjamma Memorial Music and Training School, in memory of his mother, Anjamma, who was known for encouraging children to learn classical arts.

Mr. Madhusudan, who earlier earned around ₹40,000 per month as rental income from the premises, chose to forgo steady earnings in favour of social service. He invested nearly ₹8 lakh in renovating the space and procuring musical instruments, stating that financial gain alone does not guarantee fulfilment in life.

The institution is supported by well-wishers, including D.S.P. Lingam, Pentapati Anjibabu, and Jade Tulasiram, who are assisting in its smooth functioning. The school is also preparing to introduce certificate courses in the near future.

Burra Srinivasa Rao, chief trainer and convener of the institution, said that a nominal fee of ₹200 per month is being collected for maintenance purposes.

Parents recently felicitated Mr. Madhusudan, appreciating his initiative in making classical music and dance training accessible to children in the locality. They noted that such exposure will help guide them towards a more disciplined and culturally rooted future.
