Major ganja haul seized in ASR district plantation

A large quantity of ganja was seized from a coffee plantation on the outskirts of Sangaravalasa village under Munchingipat police station limits during a search operation conducted under “Operation Vajraprahar” on the evening of April 24.

The operation was carried out by the ASR district police in coordination with the EAGLE team under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar, IPS, based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the illegal storage of narcotics in the area.

Police said 39 gunny bags containing ganja were found concealed within the plantation bushes. The total quantity seized was about 749 kg, with an estimated value of ₹2.37 crore.

A case has been registered as Crime No. 16/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Officials said the contraband was allegedly stored in the remote plantation area to evade detection. Preliminary findings suggest that those involved may have fled the spot upon noticing police movement.

The seized material has been taken into custody, and further investigation is in progress to trace the network behind the storage and movement of the contraband.

Police said surveillance has been strengthened in forest-fringe areas and transit routes as part of ongoing anti-narcotics operations. They reiterated that strict action will be taken against those involved in drug trafficking, as well as against individuals who provide land or space for such illegal activities.
