N. Chandrababu Naidu pitches Singapore-style governance model for A.P.

N. Chandrababu Naidu calls for Singapore-style governance in A.P.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has urged officials in Andhra Pradesh to adopt elements of Singapore’s governance model, directing the administration to prepare a 90-day action plan to develop one district as a pilot for reform.

Speaking at a conference of district collectors at the state secretariat on Thursday, Naidu said Singapore’s administrative system had succeeded in building public trust and argued that governance in Andhra Pradesh should be guided by a collective sense of responsibility rather than individualism.

Invoking Singapore’s “Not Me… We” philosophy, the chief minister said officials and elected representatives should adopt a more collaborative approach to administration. He added that he would also consciously replace the use of “I” with “We” in his public remarks.

Naidu said decisions taken now would shape the state’s long-term economic future and called for greater emphasis on innovation and expansion of the service sector. Andhra Pradesh, he noted, already contributes nearly 10% of India’s agricultural output.

Pointing to uneven regional growth, he said that although both Parvathipuram and Alluri districts are tribal regions, Alluri district had achieved stronger GSDP growth through value addition in coffee cultivation.

The chief minister also highlighted the potential of rare earth mineral reserves in several districts, saying processing industries linked to these resources could generate jobs and industrial growth.

Encouraging district collectors to compete in implementing reforms, Naidu called for innovation at the administrative level and cited the collector of Annamayya district as an example of proactive governance.

He also identified tourism as a major growth driver, saying the development of beachfronts at Suryalanka, Manginapudi, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, and Mypadu could create new livelihood opportunities for coastal communities.
