Odisha Governor K Haribabu lauds Andhra University at centenary
Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Monday praised Andhra University for its century-long contribution to education and nation-building, saying the institution had produced leaders who served in the country’s highest offices.
Addressing the university’s centenary celebrations, Mr. Hari Babu said Andhra University had given the nation several eminent personalities who went on to hold positions such as President and Vice-President.
He said former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu were among those who brought distinction to the institution. Alumni such as G.M.C. Balayogi, Errannaidu, and Pallam Raju had also risen to prominent public positions, he added.
The Governor said the university’s growth was built on the vision of Sir C.R. Reddy, who played a key role in its establishment, and on the efforts of former Vice-Chancellors and faculty members who strengthened the institution over the years.
He noted that several professors from Andhra University later served as Vice-Chancellors in universities across the country, further enhancing its academic reputation.
Mr. Haribabu said he shared a special bond with the university, having first joined it as a student and later served there as a teacher. He said his student days, marked by struggles for democratic values, shaped his courage and commitment.
As part of the centenary celebrations, commemorative publications were released, agreements were signed with international educational institutions, and digital initiatives were launched.
He urged students to use knowledge, creativity, and ethical values in the service of society. He also called on teachers to focus on character-building and personality development.
Expressing confidence in the university’s future, Mr. Haribabu said Andhra University should continue to make greater strides in education, research, and innovation as it enters its second century.
