Rains lash Vizag, bring relief from heat; waterlogging disrupts traffic
Moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms brought much-needed respite from the sweltering heat in the city on Friday, with several areas witnessing sudden showers.
The rain, coupled with gusty winds and intermittent thunder, kept the weather pleasant through the day. By afternoon, strong winds swept across parts of the city, intensifying the spell. However, the showers led to waterlogging at multiple points along the Maddilapalem–NAD Junction stretch, inconveniencing commuters, particularly office-goers.
As per the AP State Development Planning Society, Anandapuram recorded 40.5 mm of rainfall till 5 pm, followed by Pendurthi at 23 mm. Boyapalem, Paradesipalem, Yendada and other peripheral areas received around 12 mm to 15 mm.
Many residents made their way to the beach stretch in the afternoon, taking advantage of the cool and breezy conditions. Rainfall resumed in parts of the city by evening, prolonging the pleasant weather.
In a tragic incident, a 35-year-old man, Raju, died after being struck by lightning at Maddi village in Padmanabham mandal. Two others, aged between 20 and 25 years, sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, several parts of Anakapalli district recorded heavy rainfall during the day. Narsipatnam received 44 mm, followed by Makavarapalem at 32 mm and Kothakota at 20 mm.
