Work on South Coast Railway Zone headquarters gathers pace
Construction of the South Coast Railway Zone (SCoR) headquarters at Mudasarlova is progressing steadily, with officials targeting completion by the end of 2027.
The project, initially estimated at ₹172 crore, was later revised to ₹183.58 crore and placed before the Lok Sabha. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has allotted 52.2 acres for the facility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone on January 8 last year.
The proposed complex will comprise two basement levels, a ground floor, and nine upper floors. The built-up area is estimated at 27,548.30 sq. metres, while the total floor area is 36,128.50 sq. metres. Parking facilities are being planned to accommodate 290 cars and 615 two-wheelers, including space in the basements and open areas.
According to officials, the ground floor will house a lobby, auditorium, green rooms, a security section, and back-office facilities. Office spaces for various departments will be located on the first to the ninth floors. The first floor will accommodate the commercial department, the zonal office, and the office of the Chief Public Relations Officer.
Each floor is being designed with a uniform area of 2,702.83 sq. metres. Service areas of 851 sq. metres on the ground floor and 525 sq. metres on the upper floors have been earmarked.
As part of sustainability measures, 25 rainwater recharge points are being installed across the premises. The building will have four elevators, each with a capacity of 20 persons.
The construction work is currently under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, officials said.
