₹15,803 crore AMCA project launched in Puttaparthi; 7,500 jobs expected
The foundation stone for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project was laid on Friday (May 15, 2026) in Puttaparthi, marking a major step in India’s defence manufacturing sector. The project, valued at ₹15,803 crore, will come up over nearly 650 acres and is expected to generate around 7,500 jobs along with a dedicated township.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu took part in the “bhumi puja” along with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. He said the project reflects Andhra Pradesh’s speed in execution and ease of doing business, and its growing success in attracting strategic investments.
He said the AMCA initiative will strengthen India’s indigenous defence capabilities by supporting the development of advanced combat aircraft using homegrown technology. He also said such projects show the shift of Atmanirbhar Bharat from policy to implementation, referring to Operation Sindoor as a sign of India’s growing strength in defence and technology.
IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh said Puttaparthi is emerging as a key hub in the country’s defence ecosystem. He said the project marks a turning point for the Sri Sathya Sai district and places the region firmly within India’s expanding aerospace and security sector.
