84 Arrested, Property Worth ₹1.08 Crore Recovered
City police arrested 84 persons for their alleged involvement in 71 property offence cases detected during June 2026 and recovered stolen property and missing mobile phones worth more than ₹1.08 crore.
Addressing a press conference at the City Police Conference Hall on Monday, Commissioner of Police Shankabratha Bagchi said that 95 property offence cases were registered in the city during the month. Special investigation teams, using technical and scientific methods, detected 71 cases, leading to the arrest of 84 accused. Stolen property worth ₹39.77 lakh was recovered in these cases.
In a separate drive, the police traced and returned 455 missing mobile phones valued at ₹68.25 lakh, taking the total value of property recovered during June to over ₹1.08 crore.
The Commissioner said the detected cases comprised four robberies, two daytime house burglaries, six night-time house burglaries, four chain-snatching cases, 23 motorcycle thefts, five autorickshaw thefts and several other property offences. The recovered property included 534.455 grams of gold ornaments, 699.8 grams of silver ornaments, cash worth ₹1.16 lakh, 27 motorcycles and other valuables.
Mr. Bagchi said the city police had consistently improved their property recovery rate over the past three months. Stolen property worth ₹33.67 lakh was recovered in April and ₹31.14 lakh in May, while the value recovered in June increased to ₹39.77 lakh, reflecting the effectiveness of sustained investigation and follow-up efforts.
Highlighting crime prevention initiatives, the Commissioner said the police installed 203 CCTV cameras across the city during June and organised 204 crime awareness meetings. Crime Wing officers educated residents about emerging crime trends, the methods adopted by offenders and the role of surveillance systems in preventing crime and aiding investigations.
He said patrolling had been intensified in vulnerable and crime-prone localities, while drone surveillance was being used in isolated areas to monitor criminal and other unlawful activities closely.
Mr. Bagchi formally returned the recovered property to its rightful owners during the programme. The recipients thanked the police for their timely intervention and sustained efforts in recovering their lost valuables. DCP (Crimes) Latha Madhuri and other senior police officers were present.
