APEPDCL, NITI Aayog Workshop Charts Power Sector Reform Roadmap
The Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL), in collaboration with NITI Aayog, on Tuesday held a workshop here to discuss reforms aimed at improving efficiency, financial sustainability, and consumer services in the State’s power distribution sector.
The meeting brought together senior officials to deliberate on operational improvements and long-term restructuring of the distribution system.
APEPDCL CMD Prithvitej Immadi said the reform agenda was focused on building a more efficient and technology-driven power distribution network. “Our focus is on reducing losses, improving service quality, and ensuring financial discipline across the system,” he said.
He said the partnership with NITI Aayog would help adopt best practices and deliver measurable outcomes over the next 18 months.
Officials reviewed measures to reduce power purchase costs through feeder solarisation, rooftop solar, pump solarisation, and agri-based photovoltaic systems. Strategies to improve efficiency through cost optimisation and digitalisation were also discussed.
The workshop stressed the need to reduce Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses through circle-wise targets, smart metering, stronger network infrastructure, and data analytics for monitoring and decision-making. Improving supply reliability and service quality was also highlighted.
Participants also discussed financial restructuring, mobilisation of funds for infrastructure development, and better inter-departmental coordination. It was decided to constitute dedicated working groups and adopt a partnership-based approach with NITI Aayog over the next 18 months, with periodic reviews to track progress on key reform targets.
NITI Aayog representatives Ronnie Khanna, Sushrut Helwatkar, Vivek Thakkar, and P. Abhiram participated in the discussions. Directors T.V. Suryaprakash, T. Vanaja, and S. Haribabu, along with senior officials from APTRANSCO and other departments, were also present.
