APSDMA Flags Heat Risk, Enforces Heat Action Plan 2026
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has cautioned that summer temperatures this year are likely to be higher than in previous years, necessitating the strict implementation of the Heat Wave Action Plan–2026 across the State.
Acting on the advisory, the District Collector has directed all shop owners, commercial establishments, industries, and construction agencies to comply with heat safety guidelines aimed at preventing heat-related illnesses among workers.
Employers have been asked to ensure the continuous availability of cool drinking water at work sites and to encourage workers to remain adequately hydrated. They have also been instructed to avoid prolonged exposure of workers to direct sunlight and provide shaded rest areas or temporary shelters at workplaces.
The guidelines recommend reducing outdoor work between 12 noon and 4 p.m. and rescheduling tasks to early morning or evening hours. Physically strenuous activities are advised to be carried out during cooler parts of the day. Workers engaged in outdoor duties should be given short breaks of at least five minutes every hour.
Authorities have also emphasized the need for awareness programmes on heatstroke symptoms and preventive measures, along with the adoption of a buddy system to ensure mutual monitoring of workers during field operations.
Worksites have been instructed to keep essential emergency supplies, including ice packs, Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), first aid kits, and basic medicines, readily available.
