APSRTC to Roll Out 100 Electric Buses in Vizag, Bhogapuram Airport Link Prioritised
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will deploy 100 electric buses in Visakhapatnam district, with initial operations focused on providing connectivity to the upcoming Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram, which is expected to begin operations in the first week of July.
Regional Manager B. Appala Naidu said a route plan has been finalised for operations across key corridors. The rollout will be carried out in phases, beginning with 20 buses in June, followed by the remaining 80 between July and August.
The fleet will be evenly distributed between the Gajuwaka and Simhachalam depots, with each depot allotted 50 buses. Officials said the distribution is aimed at ensuring operational efficiency and wider coverage across the district.
APSRTC is also expediting the establishment of charging infrastructure to support the electric fleet. The progress of the works is being closely monitored at senior levels, including inspections by Chief Engineer Venkata Ramana and other officials.
At a review meeting held at the Simhachalam depot, Appala Naidu instructed staff to ensure operational readiness as the fleet expands. He directed drivers and conductors to adhere to designated halts, maintain road safety standards, and ensure better coordination to minimise accidents. He also emphasised the importance of courteous behaviour towards passengers.
Depot-level officials, including Simhachalam Depot Manager Sarath Babu and other engineering and supervisory staff, attended the meeting.
