GVMC launches DfT training programme

As part of efforts to strengthen urban water supply systems and improve service delivery, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Thursday launched a three-day training and peer learning programme on the Drink from Tap (DfT) project for urban local body officials and engineers.

Inaugurating the programme, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said the DfT initiative aims to ensure the supply of safe, high-quality drinking water to every household through efficient infrastructure and round-the-clock service. He said the project is designed to meet the growing water demand of expanding urban areas while improving the reliability of water supply.

The programme includes sessions on project planning, infrastructure management and continuous water supply systems. Dr V.K. Chaurasia, Joint Advisor, Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO), delivered a virtual lecture on service-level benchmarks and the role of urban local bodies in ensuring sustainable water supply. WATCO consultant Chinmay Tripathi conducted technical sessions on the implementation of the DfT project.

GVMC Chief Engineer P.V.V. Satyanarayana Raju highlighted the corporation’s efforts to modernise the city’s water supply network, including the use of SCADA-based monitoring systems for real-time monitoring and efficient operations.

The programme, which concludes on June 20, also includes field visits to the Madhavadhara SCADA facility and the Gajuwaka Water Treatment Plant, offering participants practical exposure to advanced water management systems.
